Healthmark earns Five-Star ranking again!

Healthmark Regional Medical Center continues to receive superlative scores regarding patient satisfaction. According to data released this year by the national Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), the 50-bed hospital in DeFuniak Springs received an overall summary rating of five stars.

The survey covered the period between the third-quarter of 2017 through the second quarter of 2018, a total of six months. The survey is broken down into multiple areas of efficiency and service. For instance, one important question involved how well nurses communicated with patients. Healthmark received five stars in this area, with a score of 88 percent, which was greater than the national average of 80 percent and a state average of 76 percent.

Physicians who communicate well with patients is another area where Healthmark earned five stars. According to the survey of patients, our physicians earned an impressive 97 percent score. That is much higher than the state average of only 76 percent. The national average was 81 percent.

Healthmark was also graded on the responsiveness of hospital staff. Five stars again, as Healthmark scored 16 percent higher than the national average of 70 percent and much higher than the state average of 64 percent.

Healthmark earned another five stars for having staff fully explain to patients about their medicine. Healthmark scored 86 percent. The state average was 64 percent with a national average of 70 percent.

Cleanliness is another area where Healthmark has continued to get top ratings over the years. Again, the hospital received five stars from patients who said their room and bathroom was always clean. Healthmark scored 90 percent, which is 20 percent higher than the state average and 15 percent above the national average.

Getting a good night’s rest is important to overall good health. According to HCAHPS, Healthmark earned another five stars in this area, with a score of 85 percent. That is 27 percent higher than the state average and 22 percent higher than the national average.

When it came to patients who said they received good information about what to do and how to care for themselves at home after being discharged, Healthmark earned a perfect score. Nationally, 13 percent of patients said they did not received this information and statewide, 15 percent said they did not get this information.

Regarding the hospital, 81 percent of patients said that on a scale of 1-10, Healthmark ranked 9 or 10. Statewide, only 69 percent of patients felt that way about their hospital and nationally, 73 percent.

Chief of Operations Gerald Beard noted that Healthmark Regional Medical Center had earned HCAPHS scores that were, in each area surveyed, higher than both state and national rankings. “Naturally, we were very pleased to see these HCAPHS survey results. Our physicians and staff have every right to be proud of the work they do every day, and I am proud of them,” he said. “This confirms what we already knew – that this hospital provides quality healthcare for the whole family.”

Healthmark achieves high marks in performance

Healthmark Regional Medical Center recently received excellent ratings for hospital performance and patient satisfaction, according to Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). Among all similar hospitals, as of March 2014, Healthmark Regional Medical Center (HRMC) in DeFuniak Springs received the second highest ranking in the state. Nationwide, out of 3,974 hospitals, HRMC ranks No. 153.

The HCAHPS survey is the national, standardized, publicly reported survey of patients’ perspectives of hospital care, in conjunction with the federal Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Patients were also asked to rate the hospital on a scale of 1-10.

According to HCAHPS, the national average is 70 percent. The average for the top 10 percent of high-performing hospitals is 81 percent. Healthmark received a stunning 86 percent rating for hospital performance.

Healthmark also ranked No. 1 in the state of Florida for cleanest rooms and bathrooms. (Federal Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems)

That Healthmark Regional Medical Center received such a superlative ranking is a testimony to the dedication of its physicians, nurses, staff and management for achieving a culture of excellence.
