Helen Farabee Regional Center

helen farabee regional center Helen Farabee Centers specialize in providing access to community-based treatment and support services for persons with severe, persistent forms of mental illness and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Serving North Texas since 1969, the Center operates more than 20 program sites within our 16,655 square mile catchment area. Each month our Centers provide or coordinate behavioral health and/or mental retardation services for more than 7,000 people and, in many cases, their families.

While our Centers serves a large population over a very broad geographic area, we are dedicated to knowing and meeting the needs of the people who come to us for help as well as the communities we are here to serve.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an empirically backed public education and prevention tool. It improves the public’s knowledge of mental health problems and connects people with care for their mental health problems.

Mental Health First Aid is very similar to traditional First Aid and CPR, in that MHFA was developed to provide help to a person developing a mental health problem or experiencing a crisis until professional treatment is obtained or the crisis resolves. During the MHFA training, participants will learn a five-step action plan to help loved ones, colleagues, neighbors, and others to cope with mental health problems.

The training is 8-hours which can be completed in one day or may be divided up into two 4 hour days.  Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) are available for certain professions.
