The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development (MCPED) is responsible for implementing the county’s economic development strategy. MCPED is structured specifically to create the ideal environment for new business and emerging sectors, as well as to support the breadth of business activities found across the county. The group’s functions are comprised of business attraction, business retention and expansion, and small business and entrepreneurial development.

Our coordinated approach with area economic development partners ensures that your new business venture or growing enterprise will benefit from a comprehensive and timely range of programs and services.

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development works to stimulate the local economy by helping businesses to grow and optimizing life experiences for residents and visitors. With a priority to assist in the creation of jobs for our highly skilled workforce, MCPED creates an environment where business thrives. Based on the strength of existing assets and partnerships, the department is particularly focused on the targeted industries of aerospace, advanced manufacturing, defense and homeland security.

It seeks to achieve a unique sense of place for each of the 27 local municipalities it serves; expand transportation options; diversify employment; reuse idled properties creatively; utilize green energy; preserve open space and farmland; support educational and cultural institutions; protect and promote Lake St. Clair; promote and expand the Macomb Orchard Trail and a county-wide network of greenways.
