Our mission is to provide the highest quality community-based counseling services for individuals, families, and groups in their own communities. We assist each client and employee to reach their maximum psychological well being. Marriage & Family Health Services works to contribute to the community and the profession to which we belong.

Established in 1982, Marriage & Family Health Services (MFHS) offers a full range of assessments and therapeutic services for children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Through our branch offices, day treatment programs, and in-home options, Marriage & Family Health Services is proud of our role in the communities of western Wisconsin.

Dr. Johnston founded MFHS and created Mikan Trauma Reprocessing and Resculpting Therapy.  He had over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, couples, and families.  Dr. Johnston’s experience with trauma included working in an inpatient psychiatric unit during the Vietnam war, organizing a combat stress unit during Desert Storm, and over 15 years of working with traumatized children in the Mikan programs.

Dr. Johnston completed his Master’s degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy at University of Wisconsin-Stout and in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing at the University of Texas-San Antonio.  His doctorate in Clinical Psychology was earned at the Union Institute. Dr. Johnston was a licensed Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Nurse.  He was also a retired Associate Professor for the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and a retired Lieutenant Colonel for the United States Army Reserve.  Dr. Johnston was a member of the American Psychological Association.
