Health Information Exchange

North Carolina

North Carolina Health Information Exchange (NC HIE) Council was established in 2007 to enable the timely and secure exchange of electronic health information for the purposes of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare and the overall health of North Carolina’s residents. The Council has undertaken this mission by planning, establishing standards and advocating for the creation of health information exchange for North Carolina that connects with the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). This is done, wherever possible, by adopting existing standards and policies & procedures. The work of the Council is poised to provide additional input to North Carolina’s American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) action plan. Council members, representing key stakeholder groups from across North Carolina, are supported by over 200 volunteers participating in five committees.
