Northwest Alabama Mental Health

Since 1969 the Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center has grown in its ability to provide services to the mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities, and persons suffering from chemical dependency in the 5 county area. In this 5 county area, no one is to be more than 20 minutes away from services. The Center prides itself in the quality of services and the well-developed continuum of care. There is a heavy emphasis on services to children, families, and geriatric age groups as well as the seriously mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities and those suffering from chemical dependency.

The Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center is a public non-profit corporation that is governed by a board of directors from Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Walker and Winston Counties. The Center contracts with the Alabama Department of Mental Health, other government units of the state, county and local governments, and industry to provide a wide range of services. This web site is designed to provide information to our communities, and to provide a vehicle for philanthropic financial support in order that we might provide even more quality services to our communities.

Adult Outpatient Services are provided at this location: 123 2nd Avenue NW, Fayette, AL 35555. Masters level professional staff provide an initial assessment with all individuals requesting services. Treatment needs and available services are reviewed and a treatment plan is developed to address those identified needs. Adult Outpatient counseling services may be provided through Individual, Family.

Process and Educational Group Therapy. Referrals are made to other community treatment providers such as physicians, vocational rehab services, and other agencies as needed. Individuals who need more intensive treatment services are referred to the appropriate level of day program and/or inpatient treatment. Fayette County offers three levels of day programs, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Day Treatment (IDT), and Psychiatric Rehabilitative Day Program (RDP). BLS Group is also offered for those individuals in residential services that are not in a day program.
