southwestern Virginia Community Health Systems

SVCHS is committed to provide access to affordable, quality, comprehensive and preventative healthcare that is culturally sensitive for all individuals of the southwestern Virginia area, while maintaining partnerships with the community in order to enhance economic stability and provide local employment opportunities southwestern virginia community

In the beginning, Saltville was a company town with Olin Chemicals.  Olin owned and controlled everything such as the town government, banks, utilities, general store, rental properties, schools and healthcare.  Due to EPA regulations, Olin closed their Saltville operations resulting in the loss of 1,500 jobs and health insurance benefits to employees and their families. Olin left all of their assets to the Town of Saltville, except the schools and hospital building.  Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems originally began as one site in 1979, the Saltville Medical Center.  Since that time, additional sites and services have been added to provide comprehensive primary health care to residents in our area, regardless of ability to pay and insurance status.

About

SVCHS is a member of the Virginia Community Healthcare Association and is a Joint Commission accredited institution.  SVCHS is governed by a community board and our clinics are not-for-profit Community Health Centers.

There are almost 3,500 similar centers nationwide, with 65 serving Virginia.  SVCHS is a fee-for-service practice just like any other doctor’s office.  To assist the center in providing access to medical, behavioral health, and dental care to all residents regardless of income, SVCHS receives an annual grant from the U.S. Public Health Service.

Being a community-based organization, we extend an invitation to you and your family to use our facility.  We also welcome any input and comments on how we can better serve you.
