May 08 : MedAptus Customers Enjoy Seamless EMR Integration

ehr incentive audits

For nearly ten years MedAptus® has partnered with customers to link its charge capture technology to clinical systems via both seamless interoperability and behind-the-scenes interfacing of charge data.  As the deployment of electronic medical records has proliferated over this past decade, MedAptus’ integration skills have increased in sophistication accordingly, leading to high customer satisfaction and clear market differentiation.

MedAptus’ suite of charge capture and charge management solutions cover professional, technical and infusion services coding and billing processes. Customer sites range in size from single-specialty groups to large and complex academic practice plans. These organizations consistently experience improved revenue, accelerated cash, better productivity and enhanced compliance. MedAptus has completed and deployed hundreds of interfaces to and from scheduling, registration, billing, clinical and ancillary systems to support adoption of its automation.

Watson Clinic, a multi-specialty group practice based in Lakeland, Florida, where over 200 physicians use the MedAptus Pro solution for both outpatient and inpatient charge capture, enjoys interoperability between Pro and its NextGen® Ambulatory EHR system. Single sign-on access to entry screens with preserved patient context help Lakeland physicians complete charting and charging tasks efficiently. In addition, the sharing of captured procedure, diagnosis and supervising physician data across the two systems saves providers from redundant data entry.

Another recent example of MedAptus’ EMR interoperability work is with Cerner PowerChart® at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Hospitalist physicians from IHA, one of Michigan’s largest multi-specialty group practices, appreciate being able to complete both clinical and coding documentation with minimal clicks when seeing patients at St. Joseph. The charge capture piece is further expedited by these providers having access to their most frequently used procedure and diagnosis codes and up-to-date patient charge history.

University Physician Associates of New Jersey, Inc. (UPA), the faculty practice plan of the New Jersey Medical School, also has reaped numerous benefits from the integration of existing clinical systems with MedAptus. Inbound interfaces containing professional charges from UPA’s ancillary cardiology, radiology and pathology systems transmit the data into MedAptus’ Coder Workstation product allowing for ancillary charges to be reviewed and reconciled alongside professional charges generated by physicians using MedAptus at the point-of-care. This all enables UPA to have complete professional revenue cycle process transparency for ongoing operational improvement.

“Healthcare organizations increasingly want to leverage existing clinical infrastructure as part of their revenue cycle, but often it’s unclear how to do that without negatively impacting physicians and other care providers. The MedAptus solution is to combine workflow analysis with integration expertise and strategy. This allows us to offer a wide array of options that leverage existing investments and data, transforming our award-winning charge management capability into a much broader and centralized repository,” said Patrick Campbell, MedAptus product manager.
