May 13 : Emergence of EMR

electronic medical records
Healthcare industry is growing at fast pace with the increased number of patients seeking healthcare and consultation owing to the ever changing lifestyles, expectation of the patients and visitors for quality service from healthcare providers.
Many healthcare service providers, physicians and care units are still following paper based system. The above said reasons apart from others have influenced some healthcare providers to move from paper based system to a more efficient and secure electronic and online systems (Healthcare software solutions) to reduce the amount of time and effort spent by the healthcare personal in attending the patients and in addressing their needs. However, large number of healthcare providers needs to use Healthcare IT Services provided by number Healthcare Software Development Companies effectively to achieve an efficient, interconnected, and patient care focused environment.
Governments have also started encouraging (by way of providing incentives etc.) healthcare facilitators to embrace information technology thereby enhancing the secure and quality of service to the patients. Healthcare IT Integration has helped many healthcare providers (who has opted for it) to computerize medical / health information related to patients in the form of Electronic Medical Records and management of its workflow to derive anticipated benefits of this fusion. An electronic medical record is digitized health information that is created in medical facilities (that provide healthcare) and is confined to that specific facility or care provider.
    • EMRsoftware provides much needed solution for the above requirement. It provides features and functions that enable the users to input, store, retrieve, and edit patient medical information more efficiently. This healthcare software application also provides useful medical / health information about the patients to physicians and other and other who have access permissions within the given healthcare system.
Wherever required physicians need to verify the patient’s medical history such as patient’s family medical history, patient’s earlier visits to healthcare units and medical treatment recommended or received. Based this information and reports received from the laboratory (if that has already done) doctor will review all the information in order to prescribe suitable remedial measures to treat the patients. All these features come with this software solution.

Some of its benefits are:

    • Speed at which information is accessed
    • Ease of access and access to only to identified few with number of privileges
    • Instant updates of clinical charts and records
    • Availability of complete records, lab reports, including x-ray images, scans, etc. on click of a button
    • Automation enables simplified consultation procedures even on difficult cases, effortless and much faster billing processes
    • Information can only be access by the designated few through secure login mechanism

• Reduced cost of clinical data management and many more

Most of healthcare facilities still using paper based records as a preferred way of recording patient health information. In fact, many physicians and healthcare providers find it convenient and low cost practice and hard to give up.
One may find it easy however, maintenance and retrieval of such information is very cumbersome, time consuming, and takes lot of storage space. It also involves many security issues and many have expressed their concerns on availability of correct information in the right time to right people that might as well save a life.
    • In the long run using software development services in order to build robust and customized healthcare software solution will help one and all. It is now pertinent for the healthcare providers to think once again on effective utilization of information technology for providing quality healthcare services to patients.
