Memorial Healthcare System joins Caris Precision Medicine Network

The Caris Centers of Excellence for Precision Medicine Network announced that Memorial Healthcare System has become the newest member.

Caris said the partnership is aimed at advancing tumor profiling and enhancing access to precision medicine.

Memorial Health will play an active role in developing standards of care and best practices for integrating molecular biology into oncology practice. At the same time, they will work to increase the use of and access to personalized medicine in clinical settings, Caris said.

As part of that effort, Memorial will utilize Caris’ “multiple-technology tumor profiling service” to facilitate the practice of precision medicine by identifying therapy options and appropriate clinical trials based on the unique characteristics of a patient’s tumor.

The service connects molecular data from a tumor with biomarker and drug associations from the latest clinical and scientific cancer literature, and is used across the network to enable the use of precision medicine.

“Memorial Healthcare is recognized as one of Florida’s leading healthcare systems, and is a national leader in quality care and patient satisfaction. I am very excited to welcome them to the Centers of Excellence Network,” said Dr. John Marshall, Chairman of the Network, Professor of Medicine and Oncology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“We are excited to join the Caris Precision Medicine Network and expand access to premier tumor profiling for patients across Florida,” said Dr. Luis E. Raez, Medical Director of Memorial Cancer Institute, the cancer institute of Memorial Health Care System.

Caris Life Sciences is a well-known biotechnology company focused on precision medicine through quality and innovation that has profiled more than 95,000 patients through their tumor profiling service, CAris Molecular Intelligence. They are headquartered in Irving, Texas, and offer services in the U.S., Europe, Australia and other countries.

Memorial Healthcare System, located in South Florida, is one of the largest public healthcare systems in the country. It’s flagship facility is Memorial Regional Hospital, and also includes the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, and other regional facilities.
