Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Now Offers Physician Ratings on the Website

Tracking Progress of 5 Major EHR Interoperability Initiatives

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) has instituted a physician rating system that is available to the public on the MOR website.  Patients were asked to answer questions about a variety of their physician’s abilities. The questions focused on how well the physician understood the patient’s ailment, carefully reviewed their medical history, listened to their needs and showed respect for their concerns.  The data was converted to a 1-to-5 star rating scale, with 5 stars being a perfect score.  Ratings can now be viewed on each physician’s page at www.rushortho.com.

“Seventy-two percent of internet users search online for healthcare information,” says Dr. Charles Bush-Joseph, managing partner at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush. “There are a lot of physician ratings websites.  But we thought the best way to recognize the quality service  our physicians provide is  by hearing what our patients have to say.”

The rating program was executed by an independent third party utilizing a software system that collects and consolidates data provided by patients about their experience during an appointment.  The Clinician and Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, which was developed by the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and administered to patients via email, was used to obtain the patient feedback.
