Modernizing Medicine CEO Daniel Cane Honored with Florida Business Ambassador Award

As health IT matures, security approaches must mature with it

Boca Raton, Florida – November 12, 2015 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc. announced that its co-founder and CEO, Daniel Cane, was honored with the Florida Business Ambassador Award. The award recognizes individual business leaders for their efforts in creating jobs and opportunities for Florida families.

During the meeting of the Florida Cabinet on November 10, 2015, Florida Governor Rick Scott commended Daniel who was nominated by Florida’s CFO Jeff Atwater.

“Being from Palm Beach County, I am so pleased to see the growth and success of high tech, entrepreneurial ventures such as Modernizing Medicine,” shares Jeff. “It speaks volumes that experienced businessmen with an impressive track record such as Dan Cane return home to South Florida to develop their next venture and help grow our economy.”

“Thank you to Governor Scott and CFO Atwater for this incredible honor. As a serial entrepreneur, my passion is identifying a need and compiling the most talented professionals to solve it,” states Daniel. “My co-founder, Dr. Michael Sherling, and I with our team are helping to modernize medicine by giving surgical and medical specialists the technology to improve office efficiencies and patient outcomes. The fact that we can have this success while providing quality jobs to Floridians is every entrepreneur’s dream.

Since the company’s founding in 2010, Daniel and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sherling have grown the company with five rounds of financing, raising approximately $87 million in equity funding. Headquartered in Boca Raton, the company now employs 440 professionals and has captured over 35 percent of the U.S. dermatology market.

Active in the local community, Daniel was appointed by Governor Scott to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees for a term beginning August 20, 2013, and ending January 6, 2018. In 2015, the Board elected him vice chairman. He is a mentor to entrepreneurs, and also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium and is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Palm Beach County.

Daniel holds a BS in Applied Economics from Cornell University, where as an undergraduate he co-founded Blackboard Inc., raised over $100M in venture capital and in 2004 helped take the company public on the NASDAQ (BBBB). In 2011, Blackboard was sold for $1.6B.
