Modernizing Medicine Unveils modmed EMA™ for Pain Medicine

As health IT matures, security approaches must mature with it

Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), today revealed modmed EMA for Pain Medicine, a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic health record (EHR) system. This new pain medicine specific EHR system is coupled with a practice management and revenue cycle management (RCM) for a complete suite designed to improve physician office efficiencies.

Designed and coded by practicing pain medicine physicians, the highly intuitive and adaptable modmed EMA for Pain Medicine is built on the cloud-based, iPad native EMA platform that has proven a physician favorite across eight other supported specialties, including orthopedics. With highly visual tap and touch interfaces and functionality such as the EMA Interactive Anatomical Atlas™, modmed EMA for Pain Medicine is designed to streamline physician workflow and improve patient reporting and outcomes.

With the EMA Interactive Anatomical Atlas, physicians can access and manipulate over 75,000 touch-points on the body and peel back the skin to reveal typical pain-points, including muscles, joints and tendons. The skeleton view in EMA isn’t simply a visual representation of bones; it’s organized into common injury and fracture patterns and helps to automate billing and reporting.

“The beauty of modmed EMA for Pain Medicine is that it is designed and coded by real pain medicine physicians that understand the unique challenges of the specialty,” said Dr. Elana M. Oberstein, Senior Medical Director of Musculoskeletal at Modernizing Medicine. “Not only does the system remember physician preferences for particular diagnoses and procedures, the Protocols feature lets users create master visits for frequently encountered conditions. These user designed protocols can then be applied to exams like routine visits, new patient exams and pre- and post-procedural instruction.”

The flexible format, combined with EMA’s touch-screen interface and automated ICD-10 capabilities, gives providers the freedom they need to efficiently run their practices and the comfort of knowing that charting, coding and billing may be completed before physicians leave the exam room. In addition, EMA includes Meaningful Use and Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) functionality. In accordance with the recent moves by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), EMA’s structured data makes it simpler for physicians to document and keep track of patient progress, creating a smoother transition to quality-of-care reporting and outcome-based reimbursements.

“Before we went through the vetting process with modmed EMA for Pain Medicine, I wasn’t confident that any EHR system would live up to paper,” said Dr. Aneesh Singla, lead physician on the EHR taskforce at the National Spine & Pain Centers. “modmed EMA has proven me wrong, saving me at least five minutes per patient. Not only do I have the ability to see the same volume of patients as I did with paper, sometimes even more, while overall having less time spent on documentation.”

Modernizing Medicine representatives will showcase modmed EMA for Pain Medicine (booth 207), along with the rest of its suites and services at the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) at the Hyatt Regency Dallas from Friday, April 15 through Sunday, April 17, 2016.
