Mount Sinai to adopt Microsoft Dragon Copilot in clinical workflows

Mount Sinai Health System plans to roll out Microsoft’s AI-driven Dragon Copilot across its care network, with full deployment expected by 2026.

The New York–based academic health system chose Dragon Copilot after a comprehensive multivendor evaluation, aiming to ease clinicians’ administrative burden and enhance care delivery by integrating ambient and generative AI directly within the EHR workflow.

The platform blends speech recognition, ambient listening, and generative AI to assist clinicians in capturing patient encounters during natural conversations. It automates routine documentation and highlights relevant clinical information, helping reduce paperwork and enabling providers to focus more on patient care.

“Integrating this AI assistant into our clinical workflows helps reduce documentation fatigue, enhance information flow, and give our care teams more time to focus on patients,” said Lisa Stump, Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Information Officer at Mount Sinai, and Dean of Information Technology at the Icahn School of Medicine.

Mount Sinai is the first academic medical center to implement Dragon Copilot across its entire system. The initial rollout is underway in select departments, with expansion planned next year. Each stage will include training, evaluation, and feedback to ensure seamless adoption.

“Our goal is to empower, not replace, clinical judgment,” said Dr. Brendan Carr, CEO of Mount Sinai. “Dragon Copilot strengthens the collaboration between clinicians and technology, helping us deliver smarter, more connected, and compassionate care.”

Kenneth Harper, General Manager of Dragon at Microsoft Health and Life Sciences, noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging AI to reduce clinician burnout and enhance patient interactions.

This rollout is part of Mount Sinai’s larger digital strategy to integrate AI solutions that support clinician well-being and operational efficiency while ensuring secure and equitable technology adoption.
