A new certification scheme for Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems has been launched by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH). The certification program, which has a two-year validity period, includes two maturity levels: Basic and Advanced. On December 1, 2024, HIS/EMR systems wishing to get certified can register through the NABH site.
The purpose of these standards, which are now free to download from the NABH website, is to standardize HIS and EMR products so that they comply with clinical guidelines and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) platform of the National Health Authority (NHA). With its fully aligned standards for hospitals and digital health systems, NABH has now given healthcare providers access to a comprehensive framework.
Applicants are recommended to prepare the necessary documentation, such as ABDM certification (M1, M2, M3), WASA certification, and optional ISO certification, in order to facilitate a seamless registration process.
The statement, titled “NABH/Gen/2024/7171,” comes after the NABH Standards for HIS/EMR were formally introduced on September 17, 2024, at the National Patient Safety Conference.
The launch of these standards has given NABH the unique distinction of having fully aligned clinical standards for hospitals, digital health standards for hospitals, and standards for HIS/EMR products. Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO of NABH, stressed the importance of this development. This will help the nation’s digital healthcare infrastructure become more open, effective, and interoperable.
The significance of the new standards in improving healthcare services was emphasized by Dr. Kochhar. He went on, “Following these recently set guidelines will not only improve the market position of your product but also make a major impact on the general enhancement of healthcare services.”
In order to assist HIS/EMR providers in comprehending and adhering to the new requirements, comprehensive guidance and resources will shortly be available on the NABH website. For further information, interested parties can visit the official NABH website, get ready for the registration process, or get in touch with dh2support@nabh.co.
