NCH First U.S. Hospital to Use AI for Early Heart Attack Prediction

Naples Community Hospital (NCH) has set a new benchmark in U.S. healthcare by becoming the first hospital in the country to implement AI technology capable of detecting hidden heart attack risks up to 10 years in advance. Announced on November 5, 2025, this milestone highlights the growing influence of artificial intelligence in predictive medicine and hospital innovation.

Developed by Caristo Diagnostics, the AI platform applies deep learning algorithms to routine cardiac CT scans, identifying subtle early indicators of coronary disease—such as inflammation—often missed by traditional imaging. By detecting these risk factors long before symptoms appear, clinicians can deliver earlier interventions, personalized treatment plans, and improved patient outcomes, aligning with the shift toward value-based and preventive care.

For hospital administrators, this innovation delivers both clinical and financial benefits. Early detection can reduce emergency cardiac events, readmissions, and critical care costs, while strengthening NCH’s position as a leader in preventive cardiology. It also enhances partnerships with insurers and accountable care organizations focused on outcomes-based reimbursement and helps attract top cardiovascular talent and research collaborations.

The initiative was led by NCH’s clinical and IT teams in partnership with Caristo Diagnostics, focusing on workflow integration, staff training, and strong data governance to ensure compliance and patient safety. The AI system now supports risk assessment for patients undergoing routine cardiac imaging or preoperative evaluations, advancing NCH’s broader digital transformation strategy to improve efficiency and care quality.

From a procurement standpoint, NCH’s approach offers a model for other health systems exploring AI adoption—emphasizing vendor collaboration, performance-based pricing, and seamless integration with existing EHR and imaging systems.

This pioneering effort demonstrates how hospitals can leverage AI to transform population health management, meet new reimbursement models, and gain a competitive edge in digital cardiology. As more health systems observe NCH’s success, experts anticipate a surge in AI-driven innovation across diagnostics, monitoring, and care optimization throughout U.S. healthcare.
