NextGen Healthcare unveils its new AI-driven EHR agent, Nia™, at the 28th Annual User Group Meeting

NextGen Healthcare unveiled its AI-driven future and introduced Nia™, its new core EHR orchestration agent, at the 28th Annual User Group Meeting (UGM) in Nashville. The event brought together more than two thousand ambulatory healthcare professionals and industry experts.

A major highlight was the debut of Nia™, an intelligent EHR agent that uses natural voice or text to understand provider intent and coordinate specialized AI agents. These agents autonomously handle clinical, financial, and operational tasks—such as retrieving patient insights, summarizing visits, managing schedules, verifying coverage, streamlining documentation, and supporting revenue operations—freeing clinicians to focus on patient care.

Nia™ was presented alongside several other AI innovations spanning scribing, intelligent document management, on-demand analytics, patient-facing call center automation, claims intelligence, and more.

“Two years ago at UGM 23, we said ‘The New UI is No UI™.’ UGM 25 reinforced our commitment to designing technology that enhances both patient and staff experiences,” said Srinivas (Sri) Velamoor, president and CEO of NextGen Healthcare. “With Nia™, we’re setting a new benchmark for AI-driven healthcare technology.”

The conference also celebrated innovation through the Excellence in Healthcare Awards, recognizing practices that are leveraging technology to achieve meaningful outcomes.

  • Excellence in Clinical Care:
Heartland Community Health Network used the NextGen® Enterprise EHR Template Editor to build an Encounter Scoring Tool that gives real-time feedback on documentation completeness. Since launch, it has enabled providers to complete over 8,500 additional preventive care interventions, ensuring timely, proactive patient care.
  • Excellence in Financial Operations:
    Two organizations were recognized.
Vision Innovation Partners developed a unified revenue cycle system that improved workflow transparency for its remote RCM team—achieving a 44% drop in denied claims, a 98.7% clean claims rate, and a 60% reduction in AR over 90 days.
Community Health Development, Inc. enhanced revenue cycle and claims management processes to reduce errors, speed up reimbursement, and automate billing workflows while improving patient experience. Program income increased, days in AR fell from 90 to 20, and diversified funding strengthened financial stability.
  • Excellence in Patient Experience:
Barbour Orthopaedics & Spine integrated NextGen® Enterprise EHR, NextGen® Mobile, and the NextGen® Patient Experience Platform to create a smooth digital workflow for MRI screening. This approach led to a 95% completion rate of MRI screening forms before the visit, reducing delays, risk, and revenue loss.

Award recipients also led educational sessions showcasing their projects, giving attendees the opportunity to learn best practices directly from peers. Specialty-focused forums, an FQHC Executive Summit, and the Mirth Tech Innovation Summit offered additional spaces for collaboration, discussion, and community-building in smaller group settings.
