Northwell Health Adopts Abridge Platform

Northwell Health to deploy Abridge’s platform in 28 hospitals
Northwell Health in the US plans to roll out Abridge’s ambient AI platform across its 28 hospitals to improve clinical documentation of patient conversations as part of its digital transformation efforts.

This project is designed to reduce administrative workload for clinicians while complementing one of the largest Epic Systems electronic health record implementations in the nation.

Serving over three million patients annually, Northwell employs 22,000 nurses and 20,000 physicians across 1,000 outpatient facilities and hospitals in New York and Connecticut.

Abridge’s platform was chosen for its scalability and ability to support clinicians across multiple workflows as the implementation progresses.

Kristin Myers, Northwell Health’s executive vice president and chief digital officer, stated, “As we transform care delivery on a large scale, we are focused on how ambient AI can reshape the experience for both patients and clinicians.

“By utilizing Abridge’s enterprise-grade technology and expertise, we’re ensuring that our transformation stays focused on what truly matters—enhancing patient care and supporting the clinicians who provide it.”

Abridge’s AI technology converts medical conversations into billable documentation in real time during patient encounters.

The platform supports clinicians across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department settings, accommodating over 28 languages and 55 medical specialties.

In 2025, Abridge is expected to assist clinicians in more than 50 million medical conversations.

Jill Kalman, Northwell Health’s executive vice president, chief medical officer, and deputy physician-in-chief, said, “Physician wellness and resilience are among the most critical challenges in healthcare today, and addressing them requires rethinking how we work.

“The interaction between patients and clinicians is invaluable, and time is a precious resource. By easing the documentation burden, Abridge enables our clinicians to focus on what they do best: providing care to our patients.”
