Silver Hill Hospital Selects QPID Health to Enhance Ability to Generate Clinical Value from Electronic Health Records and Automate Quality Reporting

The Organizations Also Announce Plans to Collaborate on a Behavioral Health Clinical Portal

QPID Health, a leader in clinical intelligence software, today announced that Silver Hill Hospital of New Canaan, Connecticut has implemented QPID software to increase the value of their EMR system, providing improved access to individual and aggregated patient information. In addition to improving clinical workflow, Silver Hill is using the QPID Cohort App to reduce the time needed to produce mandated monthly reports related to quality measures from days to hours. The two organizations are also announcing a collaboration to deliver a behavioral health portal. The portal will capture and display an at-a-glance view of clinically relevant information to support decision-making at the point of care.

QPID’s Cohort App identifies and collects information across groups of patients and gleans information in order to document compliance with behavioral health quality metrics related to Hospital Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS). The HBIPS program was instituted to protect patient safety with respect to medication and to ensure use of proven best practices in behavioral health medicine.

Reporting information is automatically extracted from unstructured data such as visit notes, in which psychiatrists, social workers and nurses capture clinical screening and assessment results. Tools that rely on extracting information from structured database fields alone cannot be used to prove compliance with these measures, which promote quality, safety and best practices. QPID replaces manual chart review that cost days of time for skilled clinical and quality personnel.

Sigurd H. Ackerman, MD, President and Medical Director of Silver Hill Hospital comments: “Our mission is to provide the best possible treatment to people suffering from mental illness, addictive disorders or both. QPID helps us focus on providing quality care by relieving the burdensome, time-consuming task of finding specific pieces of information in patient charts. QPID’s ability to mine the entire patient record and understand and retrieve what’s written in narrative form means we can truly benefit from what we have already documented in the patient record. We look forward to collaborating with QPID Health as we build the industry’s first behavioral health portal, which will put information about critical health factors at our clinicians’ fingertips.”

Mike Doyle, QPID Health CEO comments, “We’re excited to enter an innovative partnership with Silver Hill Hospital. By automating the generation of monthly reports, we save the hospital expert labor and produce valuable analytics for their quality goals. Most important, we support Silver Hill’s mission to provide excellent patient care. We’re especially excited to collaborate on the development of a behavioral health portal—a new venture for both QPID Health and Silver Hill.”

About QPID Health

QPID Health’s clinical intelligence software automatically delivers relevant patient information from electronic health records and other data sources into clinical and administrative workflows. QPID extracts patient information from the EHR using natural language processing and machine learning. With QPID, clinicians are more productive, patients benefit from decisions based on their complete health information, and hospitals gain cost efficiencies. The QPID solution was developed at Massachusetts General Hospital and usage spread virally throughout the Partners HealthCare system including to Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Faulkner and Newton-Wellesley. QPID Health launched in late 2012 to bring the power of QPID to health systems nationwide. Usage has grown from 4000 to 7000 active users over the past year supporting 3 million clinical encounters. Investors include Cardinal Partners, Matrix Partners, Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, New Leaf Venture Partners, and Partners Innovation Fund.
