howell

News Summary :

Major changes coming to healthcare in North Country and his hospital is prepared to face them, says new CEO of Ogdensburg hospital.

But Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center will not be facing the future alone and the key to improve health care is through collaoration. Adaption of nationwide funding models that are expected to reward healthy outcomes are needed, not just reimburse fee for service.

Improved EMR, EHRs in clinics, greater usage of technology like Skype will help upgrade services offered by CHMC.

Howell mainly stressed on the following points
Howell described the CIN as a group of health care providers working together to enhance outcomes and reduce expenses.
Howell says revenue models are changing and they appear to be moving toward patient outcomes, rather than number of visits.
Howell said the hospital is using electronic medical records (EMRs), but is still working to get all of its clinics and primary care providers to follow suit.
Howell says all the coming changes are destined to bring some growing pains, but he believes Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is prepared for them.
