Oct 19 : Most physicians & nurses do not like the EHR application

most physicians

By Jeri Garner, Director of Clinical EMR Implementations at Community Health Systems (CHS)

Jeri Garner, in her article posted in Linkedin, talked about a survey, in which almost 14000 registered nurses were asked about their experience with their inpatient EHR’s and an astounding 92 percent expressed dissatisfied. There are many articles which talk about how much physicians and nurses do not like the electronic health record (EHR) application, but there are not many studies how their dissatisfaction impacts the patient. The report also indicated that there has been a negative impact on communication between nurses, patients and physicians. The problem for some in this report indicated that it was the application that was purchased in the first place and many things are not user-friendly, nor can they be changed. Many focused on attaining the Meaningful Use incentives, and will now need to go back and do what they can to make the systems better.
