Oct 27 : The CDC hopes to track spread of Ebola in patient EHR data

ebola

Article Summary :

In an article, Debra Sharp raises a question as, how will the healthcare providers know that a patient’s fever raised by half a degree would have a serious connection to the recent changes in CDC guidelines. When a situation like the Ebola virus outbreak occurs, that puts enormous responsibility on providers to manually compare a patients’ record with CDC documentation.

Bryan Sivak would like to see this changed, and as CTO for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), he’s in a position to improve on a situation that’s painfully outdated. When a serious outbreak like Ebola happens, the situation is extremely fluid, and CDC makes guideline changes on the fly continuously.
