Packaging Concerns of the Cannabis Industry, You Should Be Aware Of!

With the continuous evolution of the cannabis industry and its rise to the American marketplace forefront, several regulations around product packaging are becoming a point of concern.

A recent study shows that the economic impact of marijuana is around 30 percent from the year 2020. And, the industrialists expect it to reach about $92 billion this year. Also, there are chances for its rise to around $160 billion by the year 2025.

With the availability of numerous products, cannabis companies and business models have started to feel the heat. Thus, consumers and regulations are raising concerns about clear labelling, sustainability, childproofing as growing issues. However, big candy companies have begun to complain about the ever-growing packaging confusion.

The first step consumers take to interact with the company is through the product physically. The package information display is what they turn a keen eye to. Thereby, ensure knowing if package information is something the consumer can read or understand? Will this information change consumers’ product engagement and their understanding of what the product contains?

Some concerns about cannabis packaging are:

● Clear Labeling that States Milligrams per Dose:

Product labelling information significantly differs in each U.S. state. However, manufacturer contact details and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol content is the only information that every state requires. And, only 80 percent of states need a batch number and production tracking. Some other factors are children disclaimer, cannabis symbol, and an impairment disclaimer.

Experts say that most cannabis products are under strict regulatory oversight. But, without an apt analysis certificate, consumers can’t determine what they’re consuming and in which quantity.

Also, since testing facilities have their methods for testing, the results are sure to vary from one lab to the other.

● Childproofing:

As the cannabis packaging standards are already varying, the more prominent brands are upset over the similar-looking THC treats. Thus, companies need to invest in child-resistant dispensary bags as their absence could invite children problems.

Know that the entire essence of child-resistant packaging is to make it difficult for curious children to gain access, making them utterly safe. However, know that child-resistant zipper bags are straightforward to gain access for adults.

Childproofing is significantly a byproduct of encompassing a stigma around cannabis. But, the good news is that with these regulations, cannabis consumers can be at ease. It is because of the varying products, which are suitable for the industry.

● Sustainability:

Single-use plastic products are becoming a hurdle for cannabis industry packaging. And, this is something that most other sectors in the global market are worried about. That’s the reason why single-use plastic packages are facing sustainability issues in the future.

The experts say that wastage is one of the most significant issues that the cannabis industry faces today. Issues about traceability and childproofing are creating monsters. And, these are known to range right from RFID tags to pre-roll tubes. Thus, it is safe to say that single-use plastics are becoming an issue of environmental interest.

The Bottom Line

The package itself is another issue that surrounds the mindsets of people. Thus, companies must ensure that the container should be one that doesn’t leak active ingredients into packaging. Also, brands need to be creative in improving their customer experience. Yes, how consumer communication takes place.

Moving forward, industry experts need to design necessary packaging to improve the brand process, cannabis consumers, and the environment.
