PatientKeeper Improves CPOE Application Offernings

patientkeeper

PatientKeeper®, Inc., a leading provider of healthcare applications for physicians, today announced the availability of an electronic interface between its PatientKeeper CPOE™ application and the MEDITECH™ Pharmacy (PHA) application. The interface enables physicians’ medication orders to be entered directly into MEDITECH PHA for pharmacist verification and fulfillment.

PatientKeeper’s PHA interface is live at hospitals in Idaho, Oregon and South Carolina and will be implemented at others shortly.

In parallel with the entry of orders into PHA, PatientKeeper CPOE sends an electronic PDF to the pharmacists’ document queue that provides the pharmacy orders in the full context of the orders that the physician is making. This allows the pharmacist to get a holistic view of each patient’s treatment plan. The PDF also serves as a level of redundancy in case there is a problem with the interface. It highlights any medication orders that were not able to be interfaced to reduce the possibility of an order delay.

“PatientKeeper has streamlined the hospital order entry workflow even more with the introduction of this capability,” said Dr. Paul Richardson, Chief Medical Information Officer at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina. “Our pharmacists appreciate that they can automatically see pending medication orders on their screen, which lets them focus on adding their value to order accuracy and patient safety.”

“This interface significantly enhances our seamless integration with MEDITECH. Hospitals that are using MEDITECH for CPOE can now transition to PatientKeeper CPOE with virtually no change to their ancillary department workflows including pharmacy,” Paul Brient, PatientKeeper’s CEO, said. “This electronic interface to MEDITECH PHA streamlines pharmacists’ workflow and lets them focus on the vital function of verifying that medication orders are correct.”

PatientKeeper CPOE is now deployed at over 70 hospitals nationwide, where physicians place more than two million orders each month.

Unlike CPOE offerings from HIS vendors that grew out of the back office, PatientKeeper’s software is designed from the physician perspective working back into the hospital, so it saves physicians time and can be learned in as little as 15 minutes.  The software is 2014 ONC HIT certified and leverages a hospital’s existing order catalogs and formulary so that an organization can easily move from their current CPOE solution to PatientKeeper.

PatientKeeper’s PHA interface runs in MEDITECH MAGIC and Client/Server environments.
