Pearl of the Week: An improved method for assigning the EHR inbox

The doctor no longer serves as the primary triage point for incoming communications in a delegated electronic health record (EHR) inbox system. Within their area of expertise, other team members take over and finish tasks. Instead, a lot of practices employ a paradigm where the doctor acts as a gatekeeper, providing quality control for the provision of care. This approach raises physician burnout, creates unclear accountability, and may pose safety risks.
