Saint Thomas Physician Network Renames to Saint Thomas Medical Partners

healthcare technology

Physician practices across the state employed by Saint Thomas Health have been renamed under a single moniker — Saint Thomas Medical Partners. The name change comes as Saint Thomas’ physician network rethinks how it serves patients, said Fahad Tahir, who joined as CEO of Saint Thomas’ physician network on April 1.

The decision to put the word “partners” in the name reflects a strong commitment from the system and its practitioners to work with patients as partners in health.

The system, which is composed of 65 practices in 45 counties that employ 325 physicians, is increasingly trying to partner with patients and “really make them owners of their own health,” he said.

“What we saw was just a tremendous connection to local communities. … We are totally rethinking access,” Tahir said.

Saint Thomas Medical Partners is evaluating the needs of patients about how to create a “one-stop shop” in some areas that could potentially put primary care and some specialists under the same roof, he said.

The Saint Thomas Medical Partners Midtown in Nashville at 20th and Church Street and the practice at Lenox Village are examples of multispecialty practices, he said.

Patient records are now available to all practitioners on a single electronic system, meaning that different specialists are able to access the same information, he said. Saint Thomas Medical Partners offers 18 specialties ranging from primary care, neurology and cardiology as well as weight loss and breast surgery capabilities.
