Sanford Health Picks Platform For Enterprise Genomic Analysis

Sanford Health, a not-for-profit integrated health system, has selected GenomeNext’s new Olympus platform to deliver comprehensive genomic analysis and data management capabilities.

Executives from the system say they will use the GenomeNext platform to expand its personalized medicine program across multiple regions in the U.S., to individualize patient treatment and improve health outcomes throughout the Sanford Health enterprise.

Sanford Health is one of the largest health systems in the nation with 43 hospitals and nearly 250 clinics in nine states and four countries. Sanford Health’s 27,000 employees, including 1,400 physicians,

Sanford Imagenetics is a comprehensive genomic medicine initiative launched in 2014 that aims to fully integrate the tools of genomic medicine into primary care for adults. This unique model uses each patient’s family history and genetic makeup to personalize treatment.

The health system says GenomeNext seamlessly integrates with clinical health systems, offering full service solutions to customize intelligent bioinformatics workflows for patient care. The vendor’s solution offers the ability to integrate with EMR/EHR, laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and reporting systems streaming directly from the sequencing instrument, eliminating the need for human intervention, and reducing error and overhead.

“Our goal is to provide precision medicine through Sanford Imagenetics so that our physicians are able to provide both personalized care and effective population health management for all Sanford Health patients as part of routine primary care,” said Cornelius F. Boerkoel, MD, executive director of Sanford Imagenetics Research Center on Genomic & Molecular Medicine and executive clinical director of Sanford Genetics Laboratories.

GenomeNext enables intelligent translational bioinformatics through the Olympus platform, which serves as an automated infrastructure solution that eliminates the need to build or architect modular solutions to effectively process genomic data.

The Olympus Platform delivers a fully integrated genomic analysis solution, requiring no bioinformatic investment, engineering or maintenance, providing seamless workflow and data management from sequencing instrument through analysis, interpretation and storage, including big data genetic association and multivariate analytic capabilities.

The platform will seamlessly interface with Sanford Health’s Epic electronic health record and LIMS laboratory information management systems to create a continuous, integrated and fully automated solution to scale and manage Sanford’s personalized medicine initiatives.
