Sequoia Project eHealth Exchange and DSS, Inc. Pilot Would Increase Sharing of Relevant Data with Community Care Providers

Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS, Inc.), a leading provider of health information technology (HIT) solutions for federal, private and public healthcare organizations, today announced a DSS Direct Messaging pilot program on the nationwide eHealth Exchange health data sharing network. The pilot program is designed to bridge a gap for secure relevant data sharing with federal agencies using Direct Messaging. The pilot will increase the ability to coordinate care with community health facilities by reaching more rural community care / critical access hospitals and community health providers.

When government entities choose to participate in this Pilot, DSS Direct will give them full access to all HISPs in Direct Trust and provide a comprehensive directory of provider Direct addresses. DSS is a signatory to the eHealth Exchange Data Use and Reciprocal Support Agreement (DURSA) which utilizes certificates that meet Federal Bridge Certification Authority (FBCA) requirements. DSS partners with Surescripts, a Government Trust Anchor Bundle (GTAB) HISP for its Direct Messaging platform.

“DSS Direct can immediately open a new channel for care coordination,” said Mark Byers, president and CEO of DSS, Inc. “Allowing more healthcare providers to securely share relevant health information. We are proud to be playing a key role in facilitating better coordination of care through the expansion of easy to implement encryption technology that provides better flexibility for both providers and patients.”

Interoperability is only successful when leveraged in the real-world by providers and patients, all of whom have preferred methods of health data sharing. For example, some physicians want to share a complete summary of care document commonly known as C-CDA, while others choose to share only select relevant data.

“Increasing access to community providers through Direct is only one part of a comprehensive and efficient data sharing solution for today’s federal agencies,” Mr. Byers continued. “Letting providers choose how to communicate health data with the government will accelerate exchange participation to benefit all Americans, starting with the 120 million covered by the eHealth Exchange.”

The DSS Direct Messaging-based data exchange pilot on the eHealth Exchange will provide a new option for exchange among the national network’s for participating federal agencies, 70,000 medical groups, and others who are already empowered to share patient health records.

In addition, the DSS Direct pilot expands on traditional Direct Messaging to ensure the right information is compiled, sent and received in an efficient and secured manner. DSS recommends integration with ReleDoc, a consult/referral management system that allows facility staff to track and manage a patient referral, create an electronic referral package containing relevant clinical data and share the data.

For HIMSS 2018 attendees, please stop by the DSS booth #4449 and The Sequoia Project booth #3374 to learn more about this pilot program and other health data interoperability solutions.
