Texas Medical Center Accelerator Shifts Model

improving the health

Texas Medical added a second class of startups to its accelerator program and acknowledged that it has tweaked its approach.Although the second group will focus on digital health, the next cohort starting in July will be devoted to medical device innovation.

Like a lot of accelerators that have switched up their model, TMCx doesn’t ask for equity from the participating companies to qualify for its program. Here’s a look at the latest group which spans from ways to make hospital equipment purchasing more efficient to helping accountable care organizations track each step of their patients’ healthcare experience even when they see providers at other institutions.

Aprenda Systems Houston

It developed a physician signature app as a way to simplify the process of updating physician data such as doctor’s identity information, credentials, practice locations, and plan participation as well as licensures and malpractice claims.

CareSet Systems’ CEO previously worked for 2ndMD as a COO. The company seeks to use claims data to show health systems, ACOs all points where patients go for healthcare through its software platform, Patch. It’s a visualizations tool that shows where patients go across the health system. It could also help providers to evaluate their physician referral networks for efficiencies.

Docresponse

It developed a clinical decision support tool  to produce detailed differential diagnosis lists offering a look at the percentage likelihood of a disease. IT’s designed to be used on a computer or mobile device, and can be integrated into existing platforms such as EHRs and wellness portals via API.
It takes an assessment of patient symptoms and builds a decision tree wih input from board-certified specialist physicians.

Epreop

The business simplifies scheduling, documentation, and quality reporting requirements and helps case managers ensure patient readiness and appropriate billing capture.

Greenlight Medical

The collaboration platform seeks to make the medical technology purchasing process easier for hospitals. It creates a cloud-based information-exchange between hospitals and medical suppliers.
It provides a collaborative review platform for hospitals to review and evaluate new products.

Moving Analytics

The home-based rehab program seeks to boost enrollment in  cardiac rehab. A nurse portal helps providers stay in touch with patients. A patient-centered app provides exercise coaching program, education, tracks vital signs and medication, and enables communication with nurses. It is based on MULTIFIT, an evidence-based remote cardiac rehab program developed by Stanford University and Kaiser Permanente.

Qizda

The company’s initial product Baby Noggin produced a way to help parents screen their children for developmental issues from birth to age two.

Secure Healing

The company developed a security platform focusing on high risk data breaches and to help auditors isolate any issues for investigation. The security auditing tool reads data access logs from all major clinical information systems, including EHR, billing, and other medical records. The idea is that it learns to distinguish normal behavior for all users, based on the type of provider, patients, and locations, so that it can track deviations from normal behavior and send real-time alerts.

Sense.ly
The company initially used avatars as a way to engage patients battling addiction. But it shifted its focus to chronic diseases. The virtual nurse avatar at the center of its program provides patients with clinically relevant support. The mobile device app uses speech recognition, emotional detection, wireless device integration, and medical assessments to accurately support patients.

The Right Place
The cloud-based bed management solution is aimed at post-acute care providers and gives them a streamlined solution for patient placement.
It can be customized for each facility, instantly check Medicare eligibility, and replace faxed and emailed documents for paperless referrals. It also lets hospitals: search across multiple post-acute facilities.

TowerView Health
TowerView’s medication adherence solution enables sustainable adherence for high risk patients to improve government quality scores (STAR Ratings) and reduce costly hospital admissions. Pre-filled medication inserts are shipped to patients. They insert into a wirelessly connected device that senses adherence. Doses and timing are pre-programmed by pharmacist and custom alerts are set automatically for each patient. Providers, health plans, and pharmacies are able to view real time patient adherence and reach out to non-adherent patients.

Valera Health

This company is working on a way to better coordinate behavioral health care. I interviewed the CEO Dr Thomas Tsang a few months ago.

XPRESS
The company sets out to change how physicians interact with pharmaceutical companies. Healthcare providers request information and resources for themselves and their patients. It tracks requests and utilization to see what resources are most valued and beneficial.
