The 4 Health Risks You Probably Don’t Know About

The 4 Health Risks You Probably Don't Know About

Many of us think about the obvious things that can negatively impact our health. The first three things people will name are being overweight, smoking, and doing illegal drugs. While it’s important to avoid the obvious, you still need to keep what you don’t think about in mind. People often suffer from health consequences from not paying attention or knowing about all the things that can hurt them in this world. Here are the 4 most important things to think about that you probably aren’t in regards to your health:

1: Poor Tooth Brush Hygiene

Responsible adults brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes, they also teach their children to. What if I told you that you’re actually spreading bacteria on your teeth? Everything that goes into your bathroom can get on those pearly whites if they make contact with your toothbrush. We wash our hands after going to the bathroom. What’s on your hands can stay in your sink and the surrounding area. You probably keep your tooth brush close to the sink. Bacteria from fecal matter and what you’ve touched can make it onto your toothbrush this way.

You’re probably thinking that you already clean your tooth brush. Well, you’re probably not doing it correctly. You should dump it in rubbing alcohol or mouth wash and keep it there for 30 seconds. It’s also an excellent idea to keep your tooth brush away from the sink. The likelihood of cross contamination becomes a lot more unlikely when it’s not in this area. Even viruses like herpes on live on your tooth brush.

2: Not Paying Attention To Your Air Quality

Most of us lose all signs of poor air quality as we often get used to the smell of our homes. A common odor not to ignore in the air is the smell of mold. Breathing in mold can cause respiratory issues and even increase the risk of developing dementia later in life. Allergens can also be in the air without you knowing it. Are you going inside and feeling no relief from that pollen allergy you have? It’s possible your dirty shoes brought it in.

One of the most difficult things to detect in the air through smell is carbon monoxide. This is an odorless killer. It’s usually caused by a leak in the pipe that provides this gas to your stove. It may also be caused by accidentally leaving the stove on. This is a common mistake and accidents happen; however, it’s a deadly one to make. A carbon monoxide detector improves your chances of catching the problem sooner rather than later. It’s easy for one to catch the signs of carbon monoxide in the air when it’s at a very small percentage. Once your carbon monoxide detector has been sounded, you should turn on the vent, open the windows, and leave your home. It’s also important to pay attention to the signs of poisoning.

3: Eating Too Fast

Eating feels good. We often do it a lot. Everyone knows that eating too much of it can adversely affect their health. Few realize why they’re having a problem controlling it. Our body takes time to produce the hormone leptin. This is a hormone produced in our fat cells that enters the blood stream and let’s us know we’re full. Eating at a slower rate allows our receptors to get this information before we over indulge. The best way to slow down your eating is to take a drink and put down your fork between bites.

4: The Keto Diet

This has become an extremely popular weight loss trend. You may have heard good things about it. People can lose weight while doing it; however, not all weight loss is healthy. The vegetables and fruits this diet has you avoid provides more health benefits than the fat in the steak this diet would have you believe is healthy. You’re putting your body into starvation mode by choosing to participate in it. Ketosis can be caused by consuming a level of carbohydrates that’s too low. It can result in reduced energy and painful kidney stones. All the fat in this diet is also harmful for your heart.

Staying Informed

As hard as you try to stay healthy, it’s impossible to think of everything. Staying informed on the proper ways to protect your health is the key to keeping yourself safe and healthy. It’s important to pay attention to everything you do, especially in this health crisis.
