The 5 Most Challenging And Difficult Jobs In The Healthcare Industry

difficult jobs in the healthcare industry

Working in the healthcare industry is rewarding, both on a personal level and financial level. However, some jobs are much more difficult than others. With that said, here is a list of the five most difficult jobs in the healthcare industry.

1. Surgeons

Surgeons hold the most stressful and difficult jobs in the healthcare industry. Every single day is a new day for them, but they are constantly put in charge of life and death situations. They are literally responsible for the lives of many patients every single week.

Many surgeons perform various types of procedures. This includes everything from repairing broken bones to organ replacement to reconstructing various body parts. This is just to name a few, but their jobs are also difficult because surgeons have to emotionally disconnect from their patients. Furthermore, they have to remain calm at all times, no matter how intense the situation they are in.

2. Registered Nurse

Registered nurses, or RN’s, hold down the number two spot. This is because they have to coordinate care and administer medicine to patients. RN’s also have to do a thorough job of explaining health conditions to their patients and they are often the ones that have to deliver both good and bad news to patients.

It doesn’t matter where they work, RN’s can be subjected to a lot of stress. This includes dealing with difficult situations in nursing homes, various wards of a hospital or doctor’s offices.

Besides having to handle their own workload, RN’s often have assistants. This means they have to delegate tasks to them and they need to make sure their assistants are doing their jobs properly.

3. General Practitioner

A general physician performs many tasks, including examining patients and diagnosing conditions. They then have to create a treatment plan for their patients and meet with them at a future date to ensure they are improving. They do this with dozens and dozens of patients on a daily basis.

Every single day physicians have to help people who are in distressed and sick. This is why it is one of the most difficult jobs in the healthcare industry.

4. Physician Assistant

Physician assistants regularly take on light tasks delegated to them by physicians. When the physician has to focus on doing complex tasks, then they’ll typically tell their assistants to take care of the light work for them. They regularly are under stress because they have to answer to their bosses and the patients of the physicians.

Plus, it is very busy working in doctor’s offices, as well as hospitals. They have to get used to working in a fast paced environment very quickly.

5. HR department

The last one on our list is the HR department. Working in HR in healthcare industry is more stressful than you think because there are dozens of tasks they have to do every single day.

Those who work in the HR department have to do tasks such as recruit various healthcare professionals and they have to implement strategies to retain staff. Not only that, but workers in HR have to work to maintain staff morale and figure out ways to provide healthcare professionals with advancement opportunities.

Generally speaking, working in HR within the healthcare industry is fast paced and workers do a lot of behind-the-scenes work.

Let’s face it, surgeons and registered nurses take on more work than people realize. The same goes for general practitioners, PA’s and those who work in the HR department. That’s exactly why those are the five most difficult jobs within the healthcare industry. Although each one is difficult, all of them offer an array of benefits to those who pursue them as a career.
