Things You Need to Know Before Buying Quilts

Australia, the “Land Down Under,” is in the Earth’s southern hemisphere, so its climate is opposite from North America and Europe. Its autumn falls from March to April, and the winter is from June to August. With this in mind, these months are the best times to curl up on the bed with warm and comfortable pillows and various beddings like a quilt.

The quilt is one of the essential beddings that can make your bed stylish and warm. It has different sizes, colours and designs. However, some prefer their quilts to be white as it looks more elegant and made from luxurious materials such as alpaca fur and bamboo that are available at leading home decor stores like Kelly & Windsor quilts in Australia.

So, if you plan on getting one, below are the things you need before buying a quilt.

Some coverlets are quilted, but a quilt is not a coverlet

Confusing, right? Remember that while coverlets and quilts may appear the same, there are significant differences in their construction. A coverlet is a quilted or woven lightweight bedspread. Its core may or may not be a thin layer of batting. A quilt comprises three layers: an inner layer of batting and two outer knitted layers sewn together from various fabrics.

You can use quilts as throws

The benefit of buying a quilt is that it can be used as a throw and bedding in your living room. Quilting is also considered folk art, and hand-stitched quilts can be investments and items of use and beauty in your home. Some quilts become family heirlooms over time.

It is best for coordinated bedding

A quilt set is ideal for a smooth, coordinated bedding look. Aside from the bed cover, the set will include matching pillow shams. In addition, a coordinating decorative pillow may be available in some cases.

Quilts are reversible

Quilts are more flexible than coverlets. Reversible quilts offer a quick and easy way to switch things up. Even simply turning back the quilt will add bedding dimension. Although most coverlets aren’t reversible, there are a few exceptions.

Machine washable quilts are better for allergy

True, washing your bedding frequently can keep allergens such as dust mites away. Transporting your quilt or coverlet to the dry cleaners, on the other hand, takes time and money. If you’re prone to sneezing and sniffling, buy machine washable bed covers to make cleaning a breeze.
Comforters are warmer than quilts

If you need something to keep you warm on cold winter nights, a quilt is probably not the best option. It is lightweight, and its thin inner layer of batting is not warm enough to keep winter freeze at bay. So instead, get a down comforter with plenty of insulation and use a quilt or as a decorative bedding topper.
Meanwhile, some quilts are made from alpaca wool that is significantly warmer than sheep’s wool. With this in mind, these quilts provide warmth that other regular quilts can’t offer.

These are the crucial things that you need to know before getting a quilt. Remember to always buy your quilts through a trusted brand such as Kelly & Windsor quilts in Australia that offers quilts made from alpaca fur and bamboo.

Alpaca and bamboo blend quilts are ideal for all seasons because they combine the best of both worlds: the remarkably insulating abilities of alpaca fleece and the relaxing breathability of bamboo.
