Tips On Maintaining Eye Health At The Workplace

Trained and skilled employees are the biggest asset of any company. However, if a company wants to expand and scale its operations, it must look after its employees’ health. Many companies are now conscious about employee health, but eye health is often neglected or compromised. Better eye care can increase the productivity of employees and make them less tired in the workplace. Are you a business owner and want to ensure that you provide proper eye care to your employees? Keep reading this article to find five actionable tips for maintaining eye health.

Eye Testing Routine

Guesswork is never going to help you assess the eye health of your employees. It would help if you always rely on solid data to create actionable employee health strategies. Regular eye tests can show you how many of your employees are seeing properly and which one of them need quick medical assistance.

But beware, eye testing for employees is not all about checking whether they can see properly or not. One person might be seeing all things clearly but still, end up with serious eye problems.

The solution? Regular testing can help you see any early signs of eye conditions. Another thing that can help the optometrist to check your employees’ eye health is having a record of other health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure. If any of your employees show signs of mild glaucoma, you should consider treating them with LASIK. However, checking the best age for lasik is essential as well for curing different eye conditions.

Provide Protection

Eye protection gear is undoubtedly the best option for keeping eyes safe and healthy. There are various eye protection items available in the market that are suitable for employees working in various industries. Ensure that your employees are wearing proper eye protection glasses if their work is demanding for the eyes. Make sure that you get quotes from different suppliers to buy the items at the best prices.

Another common thing across industries is that employees don’t wear eye protection glasses because of the lack of comfort. Employees come to work at your company after all and don’t want anything that makes them uncomfortable. Remember to provide well-fitting eye care products to your employees to don’t have the urge to remove them.

Last but not least, most people now need glasses to complete their everyday tasks. Wearing prescription glasses over the protection googles is not the right thing to do. For such employees that need prescription glasses, get prescription safety glasses prepared on special order.

Screen Protection

There is a popular myth prevailing since the popularity of computers that regular computer use will directly harm the eyes. While there is no truth in this myth, however, you should know that staring at the screen can cause eyestrain. Tired eyes lead to dryness, itchiness, and even headaches in severe cases. Make sure that your employees take some time off the screen as well.

You cannot eliminate screen usage from your workplace, but you can take measures to ensure that everyone has a regular eye checkup. This can help you benefit from your employees’ better concentration as they get rid of stress due to screens.

Sun Protection

You should take steps to provide proper sun protection to your employees if your workplace demands outdoor activities. Prolonged exposure of the sun to the eyes can produce long-lasting harmful effects on the eyesight. You might think of sunglasses to ensure that your employees are enjoying good eye health. However, remember that not all sunglasses are perfect for prolonged outdoor activities. Some low-quality sunglasses are harmful to the eyes. Make sure that the sunglasses you buy meet the safety standards.

A Better Lifestyle

No matter how good eye care facilities you provide to your employees, you can never protect if the employees are following an unhealthy lifestyle. Things like smoking tobacco and heavy consumption of alcohol are as harmful as spending extra time on screen. As an employer, you can influence and convince your employees to refrain from bad habits and focus on leading a healthy lifestyle. Make sure that you don’t sound assertive or forcing when you talk about overcoming bad habits. Remember to show empathy and invite them to a better lifestyle that improves their eyesight and overall health.
