Tired of Constant Neck Pain? Try These 6 Remedies

Constant Neck Pain

Tired of Constant Neck Pain? Try These 6 Remedies

Neck pain is one of the most frequent causes of seeking medical care. So, if you’re a chronic neck pain sufferer, you likely turn to your doctor’s office and ask them what you should do. You are prescribed either a heating pad or an ice pack, depending on what part of the body it is. More often than not, you will also be given more antibiotics to prevent the formation of other infections when there isn’t anything wrong with the original problem. Neck pain may be due to bad posture, disc degeneration, spinal cord injury, or even some genetic conditions. Even though you can’t change your genes, you can still try and improve your sleep to help reduce the amount of pain and discomfort you feel. Here are six remedies to try if you’ve got severe neck pain.

1. Get a Gentle Massage

You might think a massage is just a luxury you can’t afford. However, you may consider hiring a massage therapist if you have chronic neck pain. Spending your precious time and money on something that could help your symptoms is better than taking medication every week or two. Massage is known to cause great relaxation and even reduce stress. Your blood circulation will increase, so oxygen will reach more cells throughout your body, including those in your neck where it hurts.

2. Apply Ice or Heat

There are many ways to apply ice or heat to your body. If you’re trying to treat your neck pain, try applying ice first. This might help reduce inflammation and swelling by pushing the blood from the injured area and preventing it from going into the affected area. You can wrap a towel around your neck and place an ice pack on it for about 15 minutes. Apply a little heat after a while if you don’t feel like using ice. The heat will help soothe aching muscles and stimulate blood flow, which will ease your discomfort.

3. Sit Properly at Work

If you spend most of your day sitting in an office or lab, you need to be sure that you are doing this without causing any strain on your neck or upper back. Make sure you always sit up straight and make the right adjustments for good posture. If you don’t want to buy a new office chair and can’t afford to go to a chiropractor, try looking for items in your home that will help correct your posture. Use an old pillow or a rolled-up towel under your neck and upper back. This will prevent you from slouching, which will help ease some of your pain.

4. Visit a Chiropractor

You may consider visiting a chiropractor if you suffer from near-constant and excruciating neck pain. Chiropractors help treat neck pain by improving the alignment of your spine. They can also diagnose the source of your pain and suggest ways to reduce it depending on what it is. If you don’t have access to a chiropractor or don’t want to go, you can ask your doctor for a referral. You may also search online for the best back and spine specialist in Phoenix who can help you.

5. Stretch But Not Too Hard

During your day or night, stretch now and then. To help reduce your neck pain, make sure you avoid doing very hard stretches that may put a strain on your back or neck. Instead, gently move your neck in a circular motion for one to two minutes. Do this two to three times each day. You can make the same move with your shoulder blades by stretching them backward and holding them for around ten seconds, repeating this a few times each day.

6. Avoid Activities That Bother Your Neck

It would be best if you didn’t do anything that aggravates your neck pain. Headaches are the most common tolerable symptom of neck pain, but they can be an indication of something more serious. You should also avoid activities that irritate your neck and back muscles with repetitive motions, like cleaning and carrying heavy items. Instead, try to carry lighter objects at a comfortable pace and keep your posture to avoid strain. Another thing you might want to avoid is sleeping on your stomach or when you are lying down. This puts more pressure on your neck and could make your pain worse.

Conclusion

Neck pain is something that affects many people at some point. However, you should never think that your discomfort and pain are something you can’t control or reduce. With the help of these six remedies, you can find relief from your neck pain and start feeling like yourself again. Whether it’s hoping for a gentle massage, applying ice or heat to your neck, sitting properly in the office chair, or doing stretches several times per day: there are always ways to help treat this common problem.
