Trinity Health Implements AthenaOne to Improve Operational Performance

catholic healthcare

Trinity Health, a multi-institutional Catholic healthcare delivery system, has entered a partnership with athenahealth, a provider of cloud-based healthcare services, to deploy the athenaOne solution into some of Trinity Health’s physician network offices. This solution will effectively help the organization boost revenue, gain valuable insights, streamline patient interactions and reduce administrative work.
athenaOne is a single instance of software that combines the company’s electronic health record (EHR), practice management and patient engagement services (athenaClinicals, athenaCollector and athenaCommunicator, respectively). These services deliver real-time visibility into clinical and financial operations in addition to leveraging collective insight from both a nationwide provider network and a continuously updated database of insurance and Pay-for-Performance rules.
“athenahealth is proud to partner with a leading health system that proves it’s possible to disrupt health care from the inside,” said Jonathan Bush, CEO of athenahealth. “Trinity Health is modeling the future of care: coordinated, evidence-based, and centered on the patient, no matter where he or she seeks it. Trinity Health’s evaluation of the cloud is demonstrative of the organization’s transformative thinking. We share a focus on outcomes and restoring humanity to health care.”
With athenaOne, Trinity Health will be able to enhance productivity and efficiency at every step of the office workflow: pre-visit, check-in, the patient encounter, care coordination, claim creation and submission, processing, payment collection and performance reporting. There are no licensing costs nor maintenance and upgrade fees for athenaOne, making it a very cost-effective solution for achieving performance enhancements, and comprehensive back-office services help alleviate administrative burdens.
Furthermore, this partnership contributes to furthering Trinity Health’s efforts in adopting a new model of care. Trinity Health is one of many healthcare organizations that are transitioning from a fee-for-service to value-based healthcare strategy, which centers the focus of healthcare services on what patients need rather than what physicians do in order to achieve the best outcomes for the lowest cost.
“Trinity Health is committed to redesigning health care delivery from an illness- and hospital-centered approach to a people-centered approach,” said Barbara A. Walters, D.O., Executive Vice President and Chief Population Health Officer at Trinity Health. “That means delivering better health, better care and lower cost in the communities we serve.”
As a member of the Health Care Transformation Task Force (HCTTF) — an industry consortium bringing together patients, payers, providers and purchasers — Trinity Health has committed to having at least 75 percent of its business operating under value-based payment arrangements by 2020. Integration of athenaOne as well as partnerships with several other systems and solutions will play a large part in moving towards that goal while supplying patients with high-quality care from facilities operating with optimal efficiency and clinical integrity.
