University of Ottawa Heart Institute “Go-Live” with Med Access EMR

Med Access and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute are pleased to announce that the Associates in Cardiology, following a rigorous selection process to choose an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) vendor, are now using the Med Access EMR to support their clinical practice. This group is comprised of 48 physicians working in one of Canada’s largest and foremost cardiovascular health institutions, and is active in patient care, teaching, and groundbreaking medical research.

An EMR is an important tool to support improvement in the quality of patient care provided. It is an information system that is critical for ensuring that key patient data is presented in context at the point of care, supporting better decision-making and improved health outcomes. An EMR also supports improved ability to capture discrete patient data and for a research oriented institution like the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, it will serve as an important tool to evaluate the care provided, and continually improve quality.

“The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is dedicated to providing the best possible patient care and this goal will be substantially and materially improved with this EMR implementation. We evaluated all the available EMR products in Ontario and selected Med Access as a company with an excellent product and services that will help us accomplish our objectives.” commented Dr. Richard Davies, Professor, Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and lead physician for the EMR implementation process.

Unique capabilities of the 4(th) generation web-based Med Access EMR, as well as mature implementation and support processes, enable Med Access to serve the needs of health care professionals in a broad range of practice contexts, from solo family and specialty community practice to medical schools to province-wide deployments. With the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Go-Live, The Med Access EMR is now in production use in 4 university settings, including the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the University of Saskatchewan.
