Updox Achieves 2014 Edition 2 ONC-HIT Modular Certification

patient portal adoption

Direct and Patient Portal Certifications Reinforce Updox’s Continued Industry Leadership in Interoperability

Reinforcing its commitment to interoperability, Updox, the industry leader for physician connectivity and CRM solutions for health care, announced today at HIMSS15 that it achieved Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC-HIT) 2014 Edition Modular Certification via Drummond Group LLC, an Authorized Certification Body (ACB) that has been empowered to test software for compliance with the requirements of the federal government’s program. Updox is one of the first in the nation to achieve the new modular certification for Direct Messaging and also received certification for its patient portal solution.

The stamp of approval designates that the software offers the functionality that enables eligible providers and hospitals to meet Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements, qualifying these organizations to receive payments under the ongoing EHR adoption program. EHR vendors that originally did not certify with Updox can now begin offering their customers the flexibility of Updox for Direct secure messaging and/or patient portal solutions to meet Meaningful Use’s secure messaging and patient engagement criteria. Also, physician practices can choose to use Updox as an alternative to their EHR-provided Direct messaging and portal solutions.

“Our new modular certification combined with our three DirectTrust.org and EHNAC accreditations give our users the confidence in our solution and our commitment to interoperability,” said Michael Morgan, chief executive officer, Updox. “As a technology, Direct messaging is revolutionizing the way health care communicates. We’re taking the lead to pioneer innovative ways to extend how Direct supports interoperability and expand the value of the technology to impact care.”

As a result of the certification from the Drummond Group, Updox 2014.1 will be included on the list of ONC Certified Products for these criteria:

  •     e1 – View, Download, & Transmit
  •     e3 – Secure Messaging
  •     h1 – Direct messaging
  •     g1 – MU Measures associated with e1 and e3
  •     g4 – Quality Management System

“We continue to get requests from EHR vendors who would like to switch from their existing solution to Updox for Direct messaging and patient portal solutions. Before this, they would have had to recertify but now we are able to offer them our certified solutions in a way that is easy for them to switch from their current partners,” said Morgan.

Updox is the HISP of choice for more than 45 EHRs representing 150,000 physicians across the United States. The solution has become so widely adopted because of its easy integration and the opportunities it allows to share health care information easily and securely, a vital part of truly connecting health care for information exchange.

“We selected Updox as our HISP for Direct messaging and also a patient portal option for our customers. Updox delivered an easy-to-implement, cost-effective solution with smooth integration and a great support team. It’s been extremely valuable to our customers who are pursuing Meaningful Use,” said Robert D. Bridgman, Marketing Director, American Medical Software. “It’s given our customers a great advantage in their ability to share information in a timely, secure, efficient manner. Updox helps ensure our customers have a cutting-edge solution that benefits both their patients and their bottom lines.”

With more than a dozen years of testing experience across various industries, Drummond Group LLC (DG) brings a high level of technical expertise to this process. Its healthcare experience also runs deep, having certified hundreds of EHRs since becoming an ACB in 2010. In addition, DG acts as a certification authority in the Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS) and Controlled Substance Ordering Systems (CSOS) initiatives.

The ONC Health IT Certification Program provides assurance to purchasers and other users that a system meets the technological capability, functionality, and security requirements adopted by HHS. Certification also gives providers and patients confidence that the Health IT products and systems they use are secure and can work with other systems to share information (interoperability).
