Wolters Kluwer helps future nurses get true-to-life EHR workflows with new Lippincott DocuCare

EMR Industry

Nursing students develop digital fluency, critical thinking, and clinical readiness through a simulation tool.

WALTHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Wolters Kluwer Health has unveiled the next generation of Lippincott® DocuCare, an advanced academic electronic health record (EHR) platform designed to support nursing students as they transition into clinical practice. This reimagined simulated EHR offers a realistic, user-friendly experience modeled on leading industry EHR systems used daily by nurses. Fully integrated with the Lippincott learning suite, DocuCare bridges classroom and clinical learning, enabling students to apply their knowledge across the curriculum.

“The shift from education to hands-on patient care remains a major challenge for new nurses and the healthcare systems that employ them,” said Julie Stegman, Vice President of Wolters Kluwer Health Learning & Practice. “Providing nursing students with tools that mimic real clinical environments helps strengthen their clinical judgment and offers a more authentic practice experience, easing the transition into the workforce.”

“The core purpose of documentation is to ensure safe, effective patient care and clear clinician-patient communication. By using DocuCare during their education, students build these essential skills early on—making them more prepared for clinical practice and more appealing to employers, while also meeting curriculum requirements.”

Realistic experience in an educational EHR system
DocuCare is aligned with standards from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), supporting accreditation and competency-based education to ensure nursing graduates meet industry expectations. Fully integrated with Lippincott products, it offers a unified gradebook, streamlined course management, and complete curriculum alignment. Educators gain access to a wide range of resources, including 400 customizable patient records, enabling team teaching and comprehensive coverage across courses, clinicals, and simulations.

“An academic EHR simulator embedded throughout the curriculum is essential for preparing future nurses,” said Kandi Hudson, Ed.D./CI, MSN, CMSRN, CNE, of the Community College of Baltimore. “It enables faculty to provide meaningful feedback on student documentation and helps sharpen clinical judgment—an essential skill in practice. Charting is a core part of patient care, and students must understand that every entry impacts outcomes and safeguards both the patient and their professional future. It’s a critical tool for developing safe, confident, and competent nurses.”

Understanding medication adherence within the safety of the classroom setting
Nurses entering the workforce will encounter patients with diverse care needs, including varying medications and dosages—yet studies show nearly 94% of patient medication histories contain errors. DocuCare helps prepare students for this challenge by providing regularly updated medication and procedure facts, approved by medical-regulatory authorities. This ensures students develop the skills to make informed clinical decisions and are better equipped for the complexities of real-world patient care.

What nurses learn in the classroom directly impacts their performance in clinical settings. DocuCare offers realistic patient scenarios and simulations that reinforce key concepts, allowing students to review cases, analyze patient data, and reverse engineer case studies. Wolters Kluwer remains a committed leader in nursing education, supporting both learners and educators. Discover how the full suite of Lippincott solutions empowers the next generation of nurses.
