9 Sites to Launch New Electronic Health Record System in 2026

EMR Industry

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has today revealed the complete list of additional medical facilities scheduled to implement the Federal Electronic Health Record system in 2026, following its expedited deployment timeline.

The following nine VA medical centers and their affiliated clinics are set to go live with the EHR in 2026:

  • Cincinnati VAMC-Fort Thomas (Fort Thomas, KY)
  • Chillicothe VAMC (Chillicothe, OH)
  • Cincinnati VAMC (Cincinnati, OH)
  • Dayton VAMC (Dayton, OH)
  • Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC (Cleveland, OH)
  • Fort Wayne VAMC (Fort Wayne, IN)
  • Marion VAMC (Marion, IN)
  • Richard L. Roudebush VAMC (Indianapolis, IN)
  • Alaska VA Healthcare System (Anchorage, AK)

The nine sites announced today were selected after planning sessions involving officials from VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office, regional and local VA medical leaders, VA clinicians, and EHR vendor Oracle Health.

“We are thrilled to provide Veterans in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Alaska with a modern medical record system that will enhance care, coordination, and convenience. The Federal EHR is fully integrated across all VA and DOD components, allowing seamless data sharing while improving care quality, safety, and patient experience,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins.

The Federal EHR system, which VA will implement at a total of 13 sites in 2026, is the same system currently used by the Department of Defense. This deployment will enhance customer service and convenience for patients of both VA and DOD.

The department announced in December 2024 that four VA sites in Michigan — VA Battle Creek Medical Center, VA Detroit Healthcare System, VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, and VA Saginaw Healthcare System — are set to go live with the EHR in 2026. Full deployment of the Federal EHR system across all VA facilities is anticipated as early as 2031. Moving forward, VA is adopting a market-based approach for selecting sites for its deployments. This strategy will allow the department to increase the number of simultaneous deployments while enabling staff to operate as efficiently as possible. VA will implement a standardized baseline of products, workflows, and integrations based on recommendations from subject matter experts. This national baseline will help ensure the successful rollout of the Federal EHR, speed up deployments, simplify decision-making, and support future enhancements.
