Bedside and DR Room Imaging Systems Help Ensure Patient Safety and a Flexible Approach to Digital Radiography

Carestream Health will highlight its advanced capabilities in bedside and DR room imaging solutions—with the DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System, DRX-Compass X-ray System and the DRX-Evolution Plus—at the upcoming virtual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) conference.

At the bedside, the CARESTREAM DRX-Revolution Mobile X-ray System fulfills the need to keep critically ill patients in isolation, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the industry’s first mobile X-ray system with a collapsible column, the DRX-Revolution delivers high-quality diagnostic images in tight spaces, helping to limit the spread of infection by providing critical imaging services whenever and wherever needed.

“It has become necessary to bring more imaging capabilities to the patient’s bedside,” said Sarah Verna, Worldwide Marketing Manager for Global X-ray Solutions. “With the pandemic, hospitals need to quarantine patients who are seriously ill and keep them in their rooms to promote healing. The DRX-Revolution is built with this intent, to help ensure patient and clinician safety while capturing high-quality images.”

Responsive display screens located at both the tube head and main display offer technologists another point of visibility. Additional features aiming to reduce contamination include flush-mounted displays that provide a smooth surface for easier disinfecting; shelves located in each of the detector slots, within the bin, that allow users to safely place protective bags on detectors; and wristband barcode scanners for smoother workflow and limited equipment interaction.

“The display screens are redesigned to better protect against fluid ingress, which is critical for disinfecting,” Ms. Verna said. “Another feature is that the brakes and motors are quieter and less likely to disturb patients.” The DRX-Revolution also has increased security features, including the ability to lock detectors and protect against theft. Powered by a wireless DRX Plus Detector that works across other detector-based X-ray units, the system can be used in other DRX mobile systems or DRX rooms.

The recently launched CARESTREAM DRX-Compass X-ray System for mid-tier hospitals and medical imaging centers also is equipped with a wireless detector. The system offers a flexible and scalable approach to DR room digital imaging with an eye to the future, while increasing workflow efficiency and reducing costs. By providing the full benefits of a digital X-ray room, DRX-Compass (see video link) targets community, rural and private hospitals and specialty practices. With the ability to select components for specific locations, the system can easily adapt to space requirements. “Facilities today have many satellite locations and want the flexibility to move technologists around when needed,” Ms. Verna added.

Developed with in-depth customer feedback, the DRX-Compass offers a bridge for healthcare facilities looking to move from an analog or retrofitted X-ray room to a digital one. Like other Carestream imaging systems, the DRX-Compass uses ImageView Software, which enables easy and intuitive job rotation. It allows mid-tier facilities to expand the types of exams they provide, improving patient care and boosting productivity.

Another system tailored to fit a facility’s workflow and budget is the DRX-Evolution Plus. This imaging system continues to score high marks from healthcare providers for performance, reliability, installation and service. Software options accommodate specialties such as pediatrics, orthopaedics and trauma, and are designed for advanced future applications.
