Centene’s Texas Subsidiary Announces Contract Award

McCann Health Wins Creative Mandate for Healthcare

Centene Corporation (NYSE: CNC) today announced that its wholly-owned Texas subsidiary, Superior HealthPlan, Inc., has been awarded a contract by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to serve STAR Kids Medicaid recipients. The new STAR Kids Medicaid managed care program will begin in the Fall of 2016.

The new contract  will cover the Bexar, El Paso, Hidalgo, Lubbock, Nueces, MRSA West and Travis service delivery areas. STAR Kids will be the first Medicaid managed care program specifically serving youth, age 20 and younger, who receive disability-related Medicaid.

“Superior has been serving children since 1999, and serving adult aged and disabled members since 2007,” said K. Rone Baldwin, Executive Vice President, Insurance Group, for Centene. “Adding STAR Kids is a natural transition and an area where our expertise can truly help improve member outcomes.”

“No two members’ needs are the same,” said Tom Wise, President and Chief Executive Officer for Superior HealthPlan. “Through STAR Kids, Superior can coordinate care that is tailored to the complex needs of each child. This includes everything from immediate doctor visits to more long-term needs like rehabilitative services or personal attendant services.”

Superior HealthPlan currently serves 969,700 Texans in STAR, CHIP, STAR+PLUS and STAR Health. The addition of STAR Kids to Superior HealthPlan portfolio makes Superior HealthPlan the only managed care organization in the state to participate in all Medicaid product lines.
