Epic UGM: Taylor Seale Provides Update on MyChart

ehr-platforms-EMR industry

Epic has long been one of the leading EHR platforms in the United States, and its MyChart portal now serves more than 195 million patients—likely including many readers. Over the past few years, MyChart’s features have expanded significantly. At Epic’s UGM conference, Taylor Seale, a Software Developer on Epic’s Patient Experience team, discussed several of the latest tools available to both clinicians and patients.

AI is playing a growing role in MyChart. Conversational interfaces now support routine tasks such as scheduling and billing inquiries. Patients can also use AI to review instructions and highlight key tasks, like prescribed exercises. The system can answer patient questions based on their health data and even analyze information from charts and wearable devices to generate suggested questions for doctors—helping patients avoid last-minute concerns during visits.

Epic is also broadening communication through Hello World, which uses SMS, email, and voice to reach more patients.

In addition, Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) connects MyChart to wearables, supporting episodic needs such as pregnancy or post-surgical recovery. Care Companion extends this further by enabling home monitoring with devices like blood pressure cuffs.

Finally, Seale highlighted MyChart Central, which simplifies access by eliminating the need for multiple logins. Patients will soon be able to use a single password—stored in their preferred password manager—to connect to all of their MyChart instances.
