Feb 05: Fraction of Physicians Will Avoid Stage 2 of Meaningful Use

emr adoption

More than 10 percent of office-based physicians are not planning to participate in Stage 2 of the meaningful use program, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey.

The survey asked 10,302 physicians whether their electronic health record systems were capable of meeting the requirements of Stage 2 of the meaningful use program and, if not, if they intended to adopt those capabilities.

Nineteen percent of the physicians surveyed said they were uncertain if they would participate in Stage 2, which began for physicians on Jan. 1, and 12 percent said they would not participate at all. About 70 percent said they plan to participate, according to the survey.

Jennifer King, chief of research at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, called the findings “encouraging” during the Jan. 4 meeting of the Health IT Policy Committee. Source
