Feb 12: 70% of Providers Dissatisfied With EHR Systems, Survey Finds

Seventy percent of health care providers do not think their electronic health record investment has been worth the effort, resources and costs, according to a national survey by MPI Group and Medical Economics, EHR Intelligence reports.

Reasons for Dissatisfaction

Nearly half of the survey’s 952 respondents cited high costs as a reason they were unsatisfied with their EHR system (Murphy, EHR Intelligence, 2/10). The survey found that:

  • 77% of the largest practices spent more than $200,000 on EHR implementation; and
  • 45% of all health care providers surveyed spent more than $100,000 on EHR implementation (Verdon, Medical Economics, 2/10).

In addition, 65% of providers said that implementation of an EHR system led to financial losses, with 27% reporting some financial losses and 38% reporting tanıtım videosu significant losses related to EHR implementation.
The survey also found that:

  • 67% of respondents cited poor system functionality as the reason they were dissatisfied with their EHR systems;
  • 33% cited poor customer service;
  • 19% cited the reputation of EHR vendors;
  • 18% cited they type of platform they used; and
  • 16% cited their system’s inability to meet meaningful use Stage 2 certification requirements.

Under the 2009 federal economic stimulus package, health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR systems can qualify for Medicaid and Medicare incentive payments.

Nearly two-thirds of providers said they would not purchase their EHR system again if given the chance.

Some Providers Remain Optimistic
