Kaiser Permanente Chooses Extension Engage as Clinical Communication Solution

extension healthcare

Extension Healthcare announced today that after an extensive RFP process, Kaiser Permanente, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans, serving more than 10.6 million members, with headquarters in Oakland, California, has chosen Extension Engage™ as the standard alarm management and care team communication platform for all thirty-eight of its hospitals.

See why one of the nation’s largest health providers chose @ExtensionHealth to manage alarms and communications.

The Extension Engage™ platform is the most comprehensive and scalable clinical communication and collaboration solution in healthcare as is evidenced by its ability to support the entire Kaiser network comprised of 38 hospitals, 18,652 physicians, and 51,010 nurses. Once an enterprise consumer of first-generation healthcare middleware, Kaiser is now transitioning to Engage, a next-generation solution that has been adopted by more than 230 other hospitals nationwide.

Consistently recognized for being a trailblazer in the healthcare community, Kaiser is once again setting a new trend by standardizing on a platform that can accommodate communication and workflow needs of all clinical staff regardless of their location, communication device, or workflow needs.

Todd Plesko, Chief Executive Officer of Extension Healthcare, said this, “No other vendor in the entire Clinical Communication and Collaboration space is equipped to scale to this magnitude. What we can handle with our people and platform, no one else can.” Plesko adds, “And the best part about all of this is that our platform will be protecting millions of patients. That’s the ultimate reward.”

Extension’s Chief Operations Officer, Josh Mahler, will oversee the Engage deployment system-wide. Mahler added, “Our clinical and professional services teams have been working very closely with Kaiser to develop a systematic approach to installation. Our substantial growth over the years – including additions to our clinical solutions team which assists customers at every stage of the sales and implementation cycle – has put us in a very good position to handle IDN-scale projects like this.”

Extension Healthcare

Extension Healthcare’s Engage™ “one platform” approach improves clinical communication, collaboration, care coordination, and workflow with a specific focus on reducing unnecessary clinical interruptions and improving response to critical patient events. With what is traditionally accomplished using several vendors and platforms, Extension combines comprehensive alarm management with secure communications on a single platform. The Extension platform intelligently notifies clinicians about real-time patient events through context-driven notifications to smartphones and other common mobile communication devices. Designed for enabling situational awareness and timely information sharing across care teams inside and outside the hospital, Engage aggregates alarm, patient, and care team data from a variety of systems including physiological monitors, nurse call and lab systems, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and location sensing technologies and sends relevant information to enhance the usefulness of alarm and alert notifications. Leveraging the common platform that is purpose built for extensive integration and data aggregation, the Engage Mobile secure texting solution helps to expedite care coordination in response to events. With proven integrations and interoperability in more than 230 hospitals, Extension Healthcare has become a leading solution for improving care quality and patient and caregiver experiences.
