Blue Grass Regional Mental Health

Bluegrass.org has served the 17-county Bluegrass Area for more than 45 years. Our system of care includes Bluegrass Comprehensive Services, which assists individuals, children, and families in the enhancement of their well-being through mental health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services; Bluegrass Oakwood, an intermediate care facility for individuals with intellectual    and developmental disabilities; Bluegrass Prevention, a community-based program targeting alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention; and the Children’s Review Program, a state-funded program designed to assess the needs of children in the state’s care.

In 1963 President John F. Kennedy signed the Community Mental Health Act into law. In Kentucky, the state legislature established Community Mental Health Centers in 1964. Kentucky was the first state in the nation to have a system of Community Mental Health Centers providing services to the entire Commonwealth.

The non-profit Central Kentucky Regional Mental Health Board was the first in Kentucky, beginning operation in 1965. Today, New Vista provides outpatient services to nearly 25,000 adults, children and families in 17 Central Kentucky counties. Our mission is to work with our communities to develop innovative programs to respond rapidly to individual and community needs.

New Vista continues as a non-profit to provide an integrated system of care partnered with the highest level of service to assure positive outcomes for individuals and families in the areas of mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The mission of New Vista is to assist individuals and families in the enhancement of their emotional, mental and physical well-being by providing behavioral health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disability services. We serve those who have limited options for meeting their behavioral health needs.

Staff at New Vista specialize in the treatment of individuals with mental health, substance use and intellectual and developmental disabilities in our 17-county service area of central Kentucky. We use individual and group therapy as well as case management, psychiatry, peer support, and other services to help clients achieve their definition of recovery.  We focus our efforts using a person-centered approach, meaning our clients are the author of their recovery plan. Further, we believe our level of care should be intense, brief and episodic. Recovery from mental illness and substance use disorders happens best via an interdisciplinary approach. Therefore, we fully support collaboration and ongoing communication to facilitate a strong continuity of care.
