y. Should more invasive care become necessary, Weems Hospital has a fleet of ground ambulances with well-trained paramedics and EMTs. A helipad is located on site should emergency air transport be required. If you are having what you suspect is cardiac or pulmonary distress, Weems Emergency staff are ready to assist you within minutes. Recent studies show the average Weems patient is seen in the emergency room and released within one hour and fifty minutes of his/her coming through the hospital door. Our hospital also has 25 inpatient beds which are available for 23 hour extended observation, acute in-patient care and short-term skilled nursing care & rehabilitation.
Founded in 1959, the George E. Weems Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit community healthcare facility committed to providing quality healthcare to Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Serving Franklin County from Alligator Point to Apalachicola, Weems is a 25-bed critical access hospital with emergency services, specialty care resources and two medical offices located in Apalachicola and Carrabelle.
Weems hospital is staffed 24/7 by residency trained, board certified physicians provided by Southland Emergency Medical Services of FL. The same ER physicians also serve as hospitalists for in-patient hospital care. This consistency in care provides for a smooth transition from the ER to the acute care setting.
Weems Medical Center East in Carrabelle and Weems Medical Center West in Apalachicola provide primary care, family medicine, and rotating specialty care services. Appointments are available and walk-ins are always welcome. Specialty care services are available in Carrabelle by appointment through the specialists’ offices. Both medical centers offer prescribed bloodwork and lab services.
Four qualified and caring professionals service both locations bringing their expertise to the Franklin County community. Services provided at both locations are:
Medicare Wellness exams, school and sports physicals, maintenance & treatment of diabetes, hypertension, respiratory and skin infections, lacerations, annual physicals, infections, referrals to specialists, ER follow ups, headaches, UTI, earache, fever, and many other types of appointments.
