Luma acquires Tonic to support 1,000+ health systems and 100M patients

Luma is strengthening its commitment to simplifying healthcare by adding new expertise in patient intake and follow-up—without increasing complexity for patients or staff.

Luma Health announced the acquisition of Tonic Health from R1, a leading provider of dynamic intake, e-consents, and patient-reported outcomes. This acquisition supports Luma’s mission to automate administrative work, reduce staff burden, and make care easier to access through its AI-native platform. It also reinforces Luma’s focus on supporting health systems using Oracle Health EHRs. Luma now reaches more than 1,000 health systems—including over 15 major academic medical centers—and serves 100 million patients across the U.S., U.K., Canada, and the Caribbean.

The acquisition comes during a period of strong growth for Luma, marked by its second appearance on the INC 5000 list, five consecutive years of record ARR, international expansion, and deeper AI integration across its patient readiness solutions. Tonic, founded in 2010, has built a significant presence among healthcare organizations using Oracle Health EHRs. Together, the combined teams will deliver new innovations to help health systems solve operational challenges, especially around intake and post-visit workflows.

“Health systems rely on both Luma and Tonic to eliminate manual back-and-forth and get patients ready for care,” said Aditya Bansod, Luma co-founder and CTO. “We admire Tonic’s strengths in EHR integration and patient-first design. By joining forces, we can greatly reduce the work required to coordinate care and help understaffed teams do more with their resources.”

Amid growing pressure to improve staff capacity with limited budgets, Luma’s mission to reduce manual work and streamline patient access is increasingly vital. The expanded team will help customers address operational bottlenecks that hinder care delivery—especially before and after appointments.

“Luma and Tonic have both been valuable partners for us,” said Linda Stevenson, CIO at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. “They understand our challenges, and we’re excited to work with the combined team to reach more patients while reducing staff workload.”

Luma will continue investing in technology that helps patients move from scheduling to preparation to post-visit guidance—without overwhelming staff. The acquisition also opens doors to expanding best-in-class AI-driven workflows throughout the patient journey.

“We believe patients and providers deserve a simpler experience leading up to each visit,” said Anya Henriod, General Manager at Tonic Health. “We’re excited to join Luma and work together to remove the bottlenecks that delay care. Together, we’ll build industry-leading solutions that support our customers as they grow.”

Luma customers will see continued innovation and real-world impact throughout 2026, supported by a series of executive briefings tailored to major EHR platforms.
