VorroHealth, a provider of clinical and interoperable technology for healthcare, announced today it has successfully upgraded Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation, a 220-bed skilled nursing facility in Oklahoma City, to the NCPDP SCRIPT 10.6 data exchange standard.

The upgrade was mandated by a change in the e-Prescribing Rule by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) which lifted the exemption to the NCPDP SCRIPT 10.6 standard for long-term post-acute care (LTPAC) providers. With this upgrade, Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation now maintains a seamless bi-directional exchange with OmniCare pharmacies.

Since CMS lifted the long-term care e-Prescribing Rule exemption, all vendors that provide medication management and administration software are required to update the bi-directional interfaces that are in place between their EMRs and the pharmacies their EMR customers use. Effective November 1, LTPAC providers can no longer use legacy HL7 or a custom interface, nor can they use a computer-generated fax to submit orders to pharmacies. While other vendors may still be updating required interfaces well after the deadline, VorroHealth EHR clients are now enabled to interface with their partner pharmacies.

Ensuring the accurate exchange of critical medication and prescription information with the pharmacies that serve LTPAC communities is a complex undertaking requiring comprehensive testing of bi-directional interfaces. VorroHealth has tested their EHR system’s interface with all the pharmacies integrated with their EHR. Updating the interface between the VorroHealth EHR and pharmacies in the long-term care continuum was seamless because the fully interoperable EHR is powered by BridgeGate Health technology, the nation’s most advanced healthcare systems integration technology used by Golden Living, Care One and several public HIEs.
