Press Ganey automates reporting and incorporates Epic nursing quality data

specialized in patient experience monitoring Expanding on its partnership with Epic, Press Ganey has integrated its National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) with Epic’s electronic health record platform, with an emphasis on safety outcomes connected to nursing.

Through the collection of over 600 metrics from over 2,000 institutions, the NDNQI allows nursing leaders in hospitals and health systems to compare their performance to benchmarks.

The connection will first automate reporting for five primary indicators: pressure injuries, inpatient and outpatient falls, central line bloodstream infections, urinary tract infections linked with catheter use, and falls.

By expediting quality improvement initiatives, reducing time for nursing leaders, and simplifying data reporting, the partnership seeks to improve patient care.

Furthermore, Press Ganey and Epic have made it easier for joint clients to acquire patient experience insights within their workflows by means of the workshop project.

Senior vice president and chief nursing officer Jeff Doucette of Press Ganey told Healthcare IT News that nursing and quality leaders in healthcare provider organizations stand to gain a great deal from the NDNQI’s incorporation of nurse-sensitive indicators and outcomes from Epic.

According to him, the first benefit is that it automates the reporting of significant safety occurrences and results, which lessens the labor-intensive nature of manual data entry and frees up leaders’ time for data analysis and improvement projects.

He went on to say that the second requirement for giving nurse leaders evidence-based, actionable insights to better engage, coach, and assist their nursing team is the establishment of fast, reliable data.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Key safety outcomes such as bloodstream infections linked to central lines, falls, pressure injuries, and urinary tract infections connected with catheters were previously reported via manual data extraction.

For these first indications, the NDNQI and Epic integration automates this procedure; additional indicators may be added later.

Furthermore, he pointed out that early detection and mitigation of possible patient safety hazards are made possible by access to timely and reliable data on these critical safety measures.

THE MAJOR TREND

Press Ganey and Epic announced a year ago that they will be working together to co-develop creative methods to combine the companies’ platforms as part of their workshop program.

The first feature set to be made available as a result of that partnership is the PX Connect Suite. Press Ganey said that the workshop project, which was enabled by the PX Connect Suite, is a novel way of immediately integrating patient experience data into electronic health records.

According to Doucette, this program enables healthcare institutions to learn more in-depth details on patient experiences.

By viewing patient feedback immediately within their workflow, clinicians can quickly address any concerns and personalize care for each patient. Furthermore, healthcare companies can strengthen service recovery efforts and take focused action by being able to identify areas in which the patient experience has to be improved.
